1. SUCCESSFUL COUNTRIES CAMP

Junior Girls’ Captain Sage Logan is currently preparing a report on what was a very successful pre-country championships camp held on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Our camp participants demonstrated an energy and enthusiasm that, if carried over to the championships themselves, will serve us all very well. From all reports, the two days spent together proved fantastic for team bonding and preparing ourselves with the approach necessary to perform our best at the championships, and we very firmly encourage those that missed the camp to plan to be a participant next year.

Highlights included the taco meal prepared by Rosie and Jason Semmler, the bicycle ride through the hills toward Lyndoch, the dance off, the #fast final 10m training practise, the country record time swum by our junior girls in the 200m medley relay time trial, the win by the Senior girls in the team games competition, and the establishment of our agreed team motto/catchry of “SEND IT!” for the country championships (send it! = swimmer will give it everything!!)

Very, very, very special thanks must go to Rose and Jason for the evening meal on Friday night. Every conceivable filling was on offer for the Tacos, and the same could be said for the fruit platter dessert with almost every imaginable fruit available for our famished training group to enjoy.

Thanks also to David Carroll, Bec Ashmead, Matt Schubert, and Scott Logan for joining us and ensuring the safety of our participants in our 20km bike ride across the spectacular hills of the Barossa, and to Chris Timms and Steph Docherty for providing car back-up throughout. Further appreciation is extended to Chris and Bec for assisting in the preparation and cooking of a delicious bacon and egg breakfast.

I would also like to thank the Docherty, Ashmead and Semmler families who opened up their homes to host another athlete for a sleepover (the Ashmeads hosted 3, and the Dochertys hosted 6!). Certainly, the team bonding and the friendships that can be borne through the generous practice of hosting a swimmer and teammate are arguably as important as anything that may have occurred at our camp.

Well done, all!

2.  COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS CLUB TIMELINE/TICKETING

The club timeline for each day of the championships will be issued on Tuesday. For now, please be reminded that all wavemakers (championship and superfish) are expected to be available to participate in the opening ceremony (walk on) of the championships which is scheduled to commence around 3.30pm on Thursday.

Please also be reminded that tickets for the carnival are available for purchase online –see the link on page 11 of the attached  Event Book.

3.  COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS PARKING

There will be NO PARKING in the car park directly next to the Murray Bridge pool, however there will be a designated drop off zone where swimmers and gear can be dropped close to the pool and entry gate.

Murray Bridge Council have advised they will be placing no parking signs in the streets directly around the pool. Your best parking will be a few streets away or, as we recommend, due to the heat, parking in the nearby Coles underground car park. That way your car will be cool and you can shop with the event sponsor at the same time. The championship committee apologise for any inconvenience.

4.  OFFICIATING/TIMEKEEPING ROSTER FOR MURRAY BRIDGE

Please see our club’s official/timekeeper roster for the Murray Bridge Country Championships. IOT = Inspector of Turns.

5. TAILEM BEND BUNK HOUSE DETAILS AND MEAL PLAN

The wonderful Tammy Kearns (organiser of our Tailem Bend Bunk House accommodation for country championships) has proposed the following meal plan for each day of the championships. The idea is for us to get our groceries delivered from Coles/Woolies She is anxious to know your thoughts on this, along with the proposed costing – suggested $50 per family (for those who are paying $110 per night) or $25 per double (for those paying $55 per night). (please email or text Tammy if you have any questions or thoughts Tammy 0418 853 459).

There are 30 of us staying in the bunk house, and the idea of us sharing meals across the championships has so far been welcomed by all. Tammy will arrive at the Bunk House

The bunk house is available for entry from 3pm Thursday. However, since this coincides with the period in which swimmers and families are expected to arrive at the country championship venue for the opening ceremony and superfish etc. events,  Tammy will go to the venue first and await the arrival of families after the conclusion of the Thursday evening program. Tammy has very kindly offered to prepare the meal on Thursday evening, but of course if you are available to help in any way with any of the meal preparations, can you please let Tammy know.

Rooms will be allocated, and family names will be on room doors.

Costing will cover consumables including toilet paper, hand wash, paper towel, bench cleaner, toilet cleaner etc.

The food menu will serve as just a base offering to be kept in the camp kitchen, while families can of course bring their own other preferred foods/treats etc. which may be kept in rooms where there are bar fridges.

We thank Tammy very much for her initiative in organising this, and of course for all her hard work in managing the accommodation booking particulars.

Charlotte’s breakfast will immediately follow training at 7.45am, and we should finish around 8.15am. All country championship swimmers of the T2 squad and higher are expected to train on Tuesday morning. For catering purposes, please let us know if your swimmer will not attend Tue am training and therefore will not require breakfast.

7. BRIGHTON JETTY SWIM – SUNDAY 2nd FEBRUARY

Please note that we have added the Brighton Jetty Swim Open Water Classic to be held on Sunday February 2nd to our calendar of events. There is a race for every age and ability at this, SA’s largest Open Water event, and we encourage all members of club to consider taking on the challenge of an open water swim.

In previous years we have been represented by a small contingent of wavemakers at this event, and it would be great to take another (perhaps larger) team down to the Jetty Classic this year.

See the link below.

9.  NEUTROG PRODUCTS FOR SALE

Thank you to Chris Timms for organizing a donation of products from Neutrog to our swimming club for us to sell to our members.  They make great products, and many of you will no doubt have used a range in your own gardens or commercially in a vineyard.  Given the recent weather, the Seamungus and GoGo juice will be very beneficial to plants and gardens next week as they try to recover from the heat of this week. Please let Chris (cc’d) know if you would like to purchase any of the available products:

Seamungus liquid 1lt $15.  Seamungus will help increase resistance to pests and disease, stimulate healthy growth both above and below ground, and most importantly, generally improve the wellbeing of your soil and plants.

GoGo Juiceliquid 1lt $15.  The resultant product provides a huge boost of the living microbiology necessary for your soil and plants to perform at their optimum level, increasing their ability to resist pest and disease and to withstand heat and frost stress.

Sudden Impact for Roses 20kg bag $50. We only have one of these, so be quick as this is a hot product.  Sudden Impact for Roses is ideal for promoting flowering in all rose types. Designed and endorsed by the National Rose Societies, Sudden Impact will help you achieve more and longer lasting blooms.Selection of mini bags 500grams of Seamungus (pellets), sudden impact for roses and Rapid raiser $5 each.

10. BAROSSA SWIMMING CLUB SEASON CALENDAR

The new season (2019/20) commences on October 1st.

While an extensive list of meets is indicated in the calendar, a host of other meets are available. Swimmers seeking competitions are encouraged to view the Swimming SA website for additional details of upcoming meets.

*On average, swimmers should aim to compete in one carnival per month across the season.

*Where possible, swimmers should discuss their carnival selection and event entries with the Head Coach.
