2. VINTAGE PARADE

WOW! Barossa Swimming Club’s Float in the Vintage Parade was the People's Choice WINNER, and we have the SILVERWARE to show for it!

Well done Tammy Kearns for her enormous efforts in organising our club's participation in the parade. Thank you to Lincoln Shannon for the truck and for all your other associated efforts with the parade. Thank you to Skye Reimann  who is always so willing, available and capable of organising and implementing events such as this so well. Thanks Rowena Sloane for her inspirational design ideas. Thank you to Chris, Nico and Bec who I understand worked overtime with their scissor and the like,  and lastly thank you to all the wavemakers who participated in the parade with such enthusiasm!

Let’s go Barossa! (whoop!)

3. HEAD COACH ABSENCE DUE TO CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE THU 2nd MAY to SAT 4th MAY

As an important part of my professional coaching development, I will attend a coach’s conference to be held in Brisbane in the first week of May. At the conference, participate in some modules that form part of what is now known as the “ADVANCED” level coaching swimming course (formerly silver license)

As a result, I will be absent from coaching duties on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the 2nd to the 4th of May. We will attempt to cover the Thursday and/or the Saturday sessions, but this will depend on coaching availability.

We thank you for your anticipated understanding.

4.  THE TOP TEN QUESTIONS EVERY SWIMMING PARENT WANTS TO KNOW

QUESTION 3 OF 10 (7 MORE TO FOLLOW IN SUBSEQUENT NEWSLETTERS)

3. When should my child specialise in a stroke?

Kids need to grow into their specialist stroke! That is, when swimmers grow and develop physicallyand mentally, they will be naturally drawn to a particular stroke. It is common for a child’s best stroke to change from year to year but once they hit middle to late teens, the nature of specific events will become more appealing. Real talent in any one stroke is harder to hide than it is to find! There is no need to encourage kids into one stroke or another – it will just happen!

5. ELEVEN (11) WEEKS UNTIL STATE SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are just a little over 11 weeks until the SA State SC (short course championships).

Training for these championships commences tomorrow (Monday) and, in order to maximize the possibility that our swimmers will perform at their best at these championships, we expect swimmers to attend as many of their available sessions as possible. Commencing next week, we will begin taking the role at training sessions – this will help both the swimmer and the coaches to better understand their attendance patterns which, of course, in most instances will impact performance.

Eligibility for individual event entry is restricted to swimmers who have turned 10yrs of age by the first day of these championships. We also plan to enter relay teams at these championships.

Over the course of this period, beginning next week, we will issue a list of those swimmers who have qualified for the championships.

We look forward to taking our largest and strongest ever team to an SA state championship when we participate in these championships in July.

6. BAROSSA SWIMMING CLUB SEASON CALENDAR

Please see our season calendar below:

The next recommended meet is the All-in Winter Meet of Saturday May 25th (entries close 8th May) – swimmers 10yrs and over seeking state qualifying times are highly encouraged to enter this event. Swimmers 8yrs and under are not eligible to enter this meet, and 9 yr old swimmers may only enter 50m events.

The coaching panel is very keen to a strong team to the Norwood meet of Sunday June 2nd (entries close 22nd May) this event is open to swimmers of all ages, and we highly recommend this meet to our younger swimmers, and to those swimmers seeking a state qualifying time.
