Our mid-season presentation gathering will be held as a breakfast/brunch on Sunday April 14th.

This presents a much-need forum for us to acknowledge and recognize the successes of our team across the long course season, as well as an important opportunity to welcome our many new members and their families in a social setting.

FURTHER DETAILS OF THE PRESENTATION MORNING WILL BE PROVIDED SOON

3. AQUA SPEED EQUIPMENT – SKIPPING ROPES AVAILABLE FROM AQUA SPEED

A reminder that all T3 squad swimmers and above must keep a skipping rope in their swim bag.

Keian from Aqua Speed has skipping ropes available.

Most required swim equipment, including rollers, tempo trainers and goggles, are also available through Aqua Speed.

4. TEAM GOAL FOR SAPSASA CHAMPIONSHIPS/MAD MARCH TITLES : PBs!!!

The SAPSASA championships and Mad March titles provide the final opportunity for our swimmers to achieve or improve upon their season long course PB.

Best of luck to all our SAPSASA representatives as they seek to bring home the title of the top school swimming district in country SA.

Best wishes also to our Mad March Title swimmers, with particular mention to Wayne NG, Ray NG and Yannick WEIMANN who will each make their debut for our club.

The team goal for the SAPSASA championships/MAD MARCH TITLES will be for every swimmer to PB in every one of their events.

YES, THIS IS A HUGE ASK, BUT WE HAVE DECIDED TO SET THE BAR VERY HIGH IN THE HOPE THAT OUR SWIMMERS WILL RISE TO IT WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT SOME WILL CLEAR IT.

PBs will be our focus, and every PB will be recognized, acknowledged and celebrated!

Who will be our best PB achiever at these last LC meets of the season???

5. BASKET HANDLERS AUSTRALIAN OPEN: FRIDAY APRIL 12th

The Australian Open championships featuring Australia’s very best open swimmers (including Australian Olympians) will take place early next month.

Thank you to the following 12 wavemakers who have volunteered to serve in the role of basket handlers (there may still be some vacancies, so please let me know if your swimmers is interested)

6.  STARPLEX REPORT

In numbers approaching 50 that saw our team as close to the most heavily represented group at the Starplex meet of yesterday, Barossa Swimming Club enjoyed another wonderfully successful day together, both in and out of the pool.

Ultimately, the club finished the day with 33 gold medals, with Kegan, Harliai and Miella topping the list with 5 wins each. The trio were almost matched by Kyrene and Tyla, who both took home a haul of 4 gold each, while Jonte, Keian, Sophie and Jack each won two events. Our A team mixed relay group of Kyrene, Tyla, Jack and Harliai were utterly dominant in winning both the free and medley events by more than a lap in each case.

There were plenty of other highlights and great performances from our wavemaker team, most notably including the 1, 2, 3 result from Miella, Sophie and Matilda in the 10yrs girls 100IM, Hannah’s 30 sec PB in the 50 breast, Ella’s improved effort in the 50 breast, Imogen’s first ever swimming medal which came in the 100 back, and Freya’s series of impressive swims on debut.

Particular mention goes to the large contingent of wavemakers comprising Mallika, Imogen, Isabella, Annabel, Ahkira, Claire, Gus, Banjo, Eddie and Ella for their wonderful and inspiring efforts in their first-time performance in the 100m IM. Annabel and Isabella provided one of the races of the day with a lead-changing neck and neck finish in their heat of the event. Of those for whom the 100IM was not completely new, Mackenzie and Sage were among the best with improvements of 19 secs and 15 secs respectively. Congratulations also to Abigail, Lucy and Eddie for their very encouraging performances on debut in the 50 fly.

Estelle, another to debut for the club yesterday, displayed great strength to overcome her nerves and swim very well in both the 50 free and 50 back. Also in the freestyle and backstroke events, our come and try group of Riley, John and Sam energized the entourage of Barossa onlookers with fantastic efforts.

Special coaching panel accolades are directed to Charlotte, Tyla and Jack; Charlotte for “taking ownership” of her goals in the 50m breast, Jack for swimming the first 100 free of his 200 free precisely on the target time, and Tyla for her ever-improving capacity and willingness to hold her stroke rate in the 100 fly.

Well done to the relay teams of Makayla, Samantha, Cooper and Charlotte S (in the free relay) and Patrick, Charlotte A, Meg and Jonte (medley relay) who won bragging rights for their respective victories over their teammates in the TEAM B v TEAM C relay challenge.

The WAVEMAKER OF THE MEET coach’s prize for the best-performed wavemaker at the meet has been awarded to Meg Wood. Meg competed in 5 individual events, producing fantastic PB results in each of her swims.
