2. MID-SEASON PRESENTATION BREAKFAST/SOCIAL GATHERING – SUNDAY APRIL 14th (PLEASE KEEP THIS DATE FREE)

Our mid-season presentation gathering will be held as a breakfast/brunch on Sunday April 14th.

This presents a much-need forum for us to acknowledge and recognize the successes of our team across the long course season, as well as an important opportunity to welcome our many new members and their families in a social setting.

PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR EMAIL INBOX FOR FURTHER DETAILS SOON

3. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

T2 squad swimmers and above should possess a tempo trainer – this is an important and required item of equipment. Tempo trainers are available from Aqua Speed (see swimmer Keian Curthoys-Davies).

A reminder that all T3 squad swimmers and above must keep a skipping rope in their swim bag.

Keian from Aqua Speed is available to source this equipment for you if needed. Please let him know directly or via an email message to me. Aqua Speed also have Arena racing goggles in stock for $30.

4. DRINK BOTTLES/HYDRATION WHILE TRAINING

It has been pointed out that a large number of swimmers are training without a drink bottle.

Some clubs will prohibit their swimmers from training if they do not present themselves to training with their drink bottles.

Please remind your swimmer of the requirement to arrive at training with their drink bottle, and to hydrate regularly during their training session.

5. NURIOOTPA POOL TRAINING + BBQ  – THU 21st MARCH

As part of discussions that have been held with the REX management, we have been encouraged to use the outdoor pool at Nuriootpa.

While the coaching panel have concerns (weather and pool temperature related) about the regular scheduling of training at the outdoor pool, the committee agreed at their meeting of last Thursday to explore the option this week on Thursday 21stMarch. For now, this is a one-off arrangement and normal indoor Thursday training will resume the next week.

Training will be held at the normal times (4.00pm for senior squads and 5.45pm for junior squads), and will be followed by a team BBQ (hamburgers/salad) available at a small cost.

The weather for this Thursday is forecast to be fine.

6. NATIONAL PREPARATION MEET REPORT

With the entry date for the Australian Age championships closing next week, three Barossa wavemakers (Tyla, Jack and Kyrene) stood on the blocks for the final time in their quest to achieve an Australian Age qualifying time in Season 2018/19.

While the Mad March titles were originally planned as the final meet before closing date for entries, a change in scheduling meant that this was not to be.

While ultimately, under difficult circumstances (a school night (and following sports day in two instances)), the team performed well, on this occasion did not quite rise to the exceptionally high standards required to qualify for the Australian Age championships.

Best performance came from Tyla who produced a lifetime PB in the 50 free of 28.52. Jack went within a whisker of his best ever in the 50 free and, while dominating his heat of the 100 free with a terrific 2nd 50 effort, it wasn’t quite enough to achieve the target mark he is chasing this season – bring on MAD MARCH!

7. TEAM GOAL FOR SAPSASA CHAMPIONSHIPS/MAD MARCH TITLES

TEAM GOAL FOR THESE CHAMPIONSHIPS/TITLES IS TO PB!!

The team goal for the SAPSASA championships/MAD MARCH TITLES is for every swimmer to PB in every one of their events.

This is the final LC (long course 50m) swim opportunity for the season, and there is no better time to produce a PB than in a final season swim.

PBs will be our focus, and every PB will be recognized, acknowledged and celebrated!

Who will be our best PB achiever at these last LC meets of the season???

8. BASKET HANDLERS AUSTRALIAN OPEN: FRIDAY APRIL 12th

The Australian Open championships featuring Australia’s very best open swimmers (including Australian Olympians) will take place early next month.

The Barossa basket handling team (basket handlers carry the swimmers’ apparel etc. off pool deck) has been scheduled to serve in their role on FRIDAY APRIL 12th.

Thank you to the following 12 wavemakers who have volunteered to serve in the role of basket handlers (there may still be some vacancies, so please let me know if your swimmers is interested)

Keian Curthoys-Davies, Miella Curthoys-Davies,  Saxon Kearns,  Claire Goldsmith,  Ella Goldsmith,  Samantha Parish, Leisl Timms, Patrick Timms, Yannick Weimann, Georgie Sloane, Gus Sloane, Riley Hallett

9. STARPLEX CARNIVAL TIMEKEEPER ROSTER

With close to 50 entries at the Starplex meet of next Saturday, we are required to provide 8 timekeepers per session.

Most families have been assigned a timekeeping role for either session 1 or session 2.

Please contact me if you are unavailable to fulfil your timekeeping timeslot.

Those who are available but not listed may like to assist by offering to relieve others of their duties at particular times during the sessions

11. STARPLEX RELAY TEAMS

The following wavemakers have been selected to swim in relay teams at next week’s STARPLEX meet.

Team A in each event comprises our fastest combination of swimmers. Teams B and C have been selected as “evens” teams and should consider themselves as racing each other. Apologies to those not selected to swim a relay – entries are restricted to 3 teams per club per relay.

13. INTER-DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT

The Mid-North District comprising the Barossa, Clare and Gawler swimming clubs was last weekend crowned the premier country swimming district in SA at the inaugural inter-district championships held at Clare. The team won convincingly, with the next best district some 250 points in arrears.

Congratulations to the 11 members of the Barossa Swimming Club – Jack, Harliai, Tyla, Kyrene, Makayla, Charlotte, Keian, Riley, Hannah, Jonte, Ella that played such a significant part in this result.

Special mention to Harliai and Kyrene who each won the free, fly and back of the “skins” events in their respective age groups, and to Charlotte A who was the victor in the breaststroke “skins”.
