We're Making Waves! - Newsletter No. 16 - Sun 2nd February - Season 2019-20
1. INTER-DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS – SAT 7th MARCH/SUN 8th MARCH
*Please let the Head Coach know by Fri 7th at latest (earlier preferred) if your swimmer is available for selection for these championships.
Our district, comprising the clubs of Gawler, Clare and Barossa, took home the spoils at this event in its inception last year. This is one of the few chances swimmers have to represent a team outside their own club, so we are hoping that Barossa swimmers regard selection to this team as an honour, and as something to wish they aspire.
Athletes from the Barossa Swimming Club are asked to indicate their availability (or not) for team selection by return email by next Friday the 7th February at the latest – please note that nomination for the team does not guarantee selection.
Age is taken as at the first day of the meet on 7th March, and teams consist of swimmers across the following age groups: Girls 11-18yrs, Boys 12-19yrs
Thank you to the following 14 swimmers who have indicated their availability for selection: Nyah Schubert, Emma Schubert, Freya Cartledge, Ella Goldsmith, Claire Goldsmith, Harliai Curthoys-Davies, Keian Curthoys-Davies, Miella Curthoys-Davies, Sage Logan, Jonte Reimann, Charlotte Ashmead, Sophie Ashmead, Jasmine Carroll, Ahkira Phelan

Program of Events:
2. CLARE OPEN/MID-NORTH SPRINTS NEXT WEEKEND
No coaches are available to attend the Clare Open carnival of next Saturday 8th February.
The Head coach will be present at the Mid-North sprints weekend swimming carnival of next Sunday 9th February. Gates open at 8.00am, and swimmers are asked to arrive by 8.15am for set-up and dryland activities before entering the water for warm-up from 8.30am.
3. RENMARK CARNIVAL ENTRIES CLOSE NEXT SAT FEB 7th
Please note that entries for the 2-day Renmark carnival close next Saturday, February 7th.
In previous years families have booked sites at the Lake Bonney Caravan Park on the Saturday. This has proved very successful, and we encourage families to do the same again this year.
Many families have elected not to enter the events on the Sunday program, which of course can allow for a later night than normal….., and for the waters of Lake Bonney to be enjoyed on the Sunday.
Saturday’s events for entry are Event Nos. 1 to 39
4. PROPOSED DATE FOR TIME TRIAL NIGHT AT NURI POOL – FRI FEB 21st
The committee and coaching panel have proposed the idea of holding time trial nights at the Nuri outdoor pool.
A proposed date for the first of these time-trial evenings is Friday 21st of February (one week prior to the Barossa and Light SAPSASA carnival). We have suggested that the evening also couple as a mid-season social gathering at which we could enjoy a BBQ dinner, and also recognise the efforts of our Superfish and record breakers etc. with presentation of certificates.
5. GRANT SUCCESS – THANK YOU LAURA MUDGE
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Laura Mudge who, through her wonderful grant-writing skills, has been successful in securing a government grant for the club of $5000 to be spent on facilities. We are fortunate to have Laura as another hard-working member of our committee, and of course we are very, very grateful for the contribution she continues to make to the running of our club.
6. TRIATHLON EVENT PARTICIPATION
Members of our swimming club have been invited to compete in upcoming local triathlon club events (see the attached poster). As always, we encourage a diversity of sporting involvement among our swimmers, and would welcome the participation of our swimmers in these local fun triathlons.
Dates: Sun 16 Feb 8am, Fri 28 Feb 6pm, Sun 15 Mar 11am
7. BAROSSA SWIMMING CLUB SEASON CALENDAR
The new season (2019/20) commences on October 1st.
Please note also that the calendar includes a number of proposed dates, including short squad breaks (these dates still require committee ratification and approval).
While an extensive list of meets is indicated in the calendar, a host of other meets are available. Swimmers seeking competitions are encouraged to view the Swimming SA website for additional details of upcoming meets.
*On average, swimmers should aim to compete in one carnival per month across the season.
*Where possible, swimmers should discuss their carnival selection and event entries with the Head Coach.
